We are an inclusive learning community where quality relationships are nurtured. Our students are actively encouraged to be leaders and participate in decision making to shape the future of our School. Our Student Leadership Program ensures that a range of diverse voices are heard and considered.

The holistic development of each student is achieved through a joint focus on their  involvement in both a rich academic and extensive co-curricular program. Blackburn High School’s Learning Norms form the foundation of the high expectations and aspirations we have for all students. The Learning Norms promote preparation, foster resilience and endeavour to impart a passion for lifelong learning.

We provide a comprehensive and challenging educational program with opportunities for students of all abilities, including high achieving students, encouraging them to think creatively and critically and further develop their interests.

The House System fosters a sense of community and assists students to reach their full educational potential, empowering them to take responsibility for their own learning and their own behaviour in an environment where effort as well as achievement are acknowledged and celebrated.

Our dedicated and talented teachers at Blackburn High School have a shared belief that all students can learn and succeed. They take collective responsibility for improving instructional practices to achieve gains in learning for all of their students. They are reflective and committed to an ongoing process that promotes deep learning.

At Blackburn High School, the parent community is valued, and we continue to encourage their contribution by forging strong links and an active partnership that supports the learning and development of our students.

Blackburn High school has a new 14-classroom STEM Centre precinct that will transform the learning experiences for our students. Our Vision

Blackburn High School aims to create a dynamic and inclusive community where all students grow together to become successful learners, confident and creative individuals and active and informed citizens.

Learning Norms

We enter class on time, prepared and willing to actively contribute to our learning
We learn from our mistakes
We value curiosity, creativity and thinking
We challenge ourselves and others to do our best
We behave in a respectful and constructive way

Mission

Our school motto Ad Lucem Crescimus – Growing towards the light, is central to our core values. Our purpose is to engage the school community in a positive culture that embraces team work, innovation and excellence.

We empower our students to be active learners by developing their capacity to take control of their own learning, whether working independently or with others.

Our culture of high expectations encourages all students to be optimistic, creative problem solvers who embrace challenges and use these experiences to persevere, learn and thrive.

Respect

Of oneself, others and of learning are displayed through honesty, integrity, consideration and the celebration of diversity in a safe and inclusive environment. We teach students to have due regard for the opinions, feelings, wishes and rights of others.

Pursuit of Excellence

Students are supported to reach their full potential by developing wide-ranging skills and capabilities, and to show growth academically, personally and socially.  We value and celebrate effort and achievement. We motivate students to do their best, at whatever level that may be, by nurturing a culture of striving for excellence which in turn opens up the pathways to success.

Citizenship

Students are encouraged to become active and informed citizens through their participation at a local, national and global level. We teach students the skills and knowledge to understand and engage with the world they live in.

This is demonstrated through involvement in the rich opportunities within the school and wider communities. Students are supported to take increasing responsibility for their own learning, their relationships with others and their participation in all aspects of school life.
