International Students at Blackburn High School

VCE Study Centre

A state-of-the-art new VCE Centre dedicated to our Year 10 and VCE classes has been designed to allow students and staff to embrace the concept of collaborative learning with an environment allowing VCE students to focus on their academic pursuits and on the top floor can be transformed from classrooms to an Exam Centre.

Careers Centre

We have two full-time Careers guidance staff who work closely with the International Team to support your child.

The Homestay Program

Ms Isabel Zhou selects homestay families from our community by checking all criteria meet the needs of each student's preferences. Isabel coordinates interviews with all the homestay providers to give each student the best opportunities that are available for international students.

This includes visiting the homestay and making sure that everyone in the household over 18 years of age has a Working With Children Check from the government. The homestay coordinator visits the homes of our homestay families to make sure the accommodation is comfortable and of a high standard for living and relaxing, doing homework and sharing in family life.

The students will receive a homestay profile before their arrival so that students can get to know the homestay family.

English as an Additional Language (EAL) classes

Students in Years 7–10 who are recent arrivals in Australia undertake EAL classes as an alternative to studying a Language Other Than English (LOTE). In VCE, these students study EAL as an alternative to English.

Any student wishing to pursue study of their first language as an academic study is encouraged to do so at the Victorian School of Languages which operates within Blackburn High School on Saturday mornings.
