School Cafe Regularly Achieves Five Star Rating

For several years now the School Cafe has been awarded 5 Stars from The City of Whitehorse with total assessment scores of 100%.

The School Cafe is also helping students gain experience in the hospitality industry through its student volunteer program.  Through this program students gain valuable work experience and learn customer service, food preparation and clean up, record keeping, and coffee making skills. The opportunity to learn in this practical way is proving to be very popular with the students.

The School Cafe is centrally located and provides easy access for staff and students. There is a spacious dining area which opens onto an alfresco eating area with landscaped gardens, complete with a herb garden, fruit trees and courtyard seating areas for students. Blackburn High School has a “Healthy Eating” policy and students are encouraged to make healthy eating choices. Donna and Maria, Canteen Managers, are both qualified chefs.

Delicious, nutritious and homemade

A wide range of hot and cold, healthy alternatives are on offer, many of them made fresh each day by our café staff. Students can enjoy sushi, homemade soups, homemade pasta, focaccias, delicious wraps and sandwiches, homemade muffins, cakes and slices and delicious daily specials. Students can also enjoy hot chocolate, made by our very own barista, and Lavazza coffee is available to Year 12 students and staff.

Students can make suggestions for daily specials if there is something in particular they would like. Cafe staff enjoy receiving feedback from students. To ensure they don’t miss out their favourite food, students can place an order at recess time and the order is ready for collection at lunchtime. Over the counter sales are available throughout recess and lunchtime.
