In 1891, the first Royal South Street Society competitions were held and paved the way for future performers around the country to find their vocation and feet on stages both at home and abroad.

125 years later Royal South Street is the largest and the longest running performing arts eisteddfod in Australia.

Blackburn High School has a fine tradition of performance excellence resulting in  multiple awards at Royal South Street and this year was no exception. Our ensembles dominated the 2017 awards as follows:

Concert Band, directed by Ingrid Martin – 1st

Symphonic Band, directed by Jemima Bunn – 1st

Junior Big Band, directed by Dave Palmer – 1st

Intermediate Big Band, directed by Jeff Vague – 1st

Senior Jazz Orchestra, directed by Andy O’Connell – 1st

Vocal Ensemble, directed by Marianne Rigby-Black, accompanied by Adrienne Ferre – 1st

Chamber Choir, directed by Marianne Rigby-Black, accompanied by Sandra Birze – Honourable Mention
