Mid-Year Music Concert

On Wednesday evening we had the great delight of welcoming families back to the school to see their children perform. The night was an overwhelming success and an absolute sell-out with over 500 seats sold. This year we had to create a green room with a live stream for students to watch each other perform to provide enough seats for all their parents and family members to attend. The night was full of special moments including a warm farewell to Ms Carolyn Grace who is retiring from teaching after more than four decades teaching music and more than twenty years here at Blackburn High School. Ms Ingrid Martin returned as a special guest conductor, filling in for Music Director Mr Jason Ziino to lead the Symphonic Band in the evening’s finale. The big announcement of the evening was the news that James ‘the genius of jazz’ Morrison will be working with our Music students for two full days in August culminating in a special concert with the students to be performed for parents. We can’t wait!
Congratulations to all the students and their teachers for an excellent concert – you are an inspiration to us all. Special thanks must go to Mr Kieren Bambery, Ms Madeleine Weatherley, Mr Chris Mullarvey and Mr Damian Quinn who worked with the Instrumental Music teachers, Tech Crew and the photo and filming students to support the smooth running of the concert. Thank-you also to Mrs Maria Konstantinidis who helped us to open the canteen during intermission with some much-needed warm snacks.
