Blackburn High School’s Symphonic Band and Senior Jazz Orchestra have been selected to perform at the 71st Midwest Clinic in Chicago, USA this December.
This is a remarkable honour as we are the first Australian school to have two ensembles invited to attend this prestigious event.
No other school in Australia has had this honour. Our Senior Jazz Orchestra will be the first Australian school Jazz orchestra to have been given the honour of performing at the conference.
Blackburn High School’s ensembles were assessed alongside 300 – 350 other ensembles. The Mid West Clinic accepts approximately 7 to 8% of ensembles to perform each year.
Our school was thrilled to receive the invitations to perform.
The Midwest Clinic, held in Chicago each year is the world’s largest music education conference, attended annually by an international audience of more than 17,000 music educators, students and professionals.
In addition to performing at this major conference the 40 students going to the USA Tour will be performing and engaging in workshops at Universities, Colleges and Schools in Washington, New York and Chicago.
