Innovative creative project expands students’ musical minds

Courtesy of Arts Victoria, Melbourne Jazz identity Steve Sedergreen is Artist in Residence at Blackburn High School for Term 3. ‘A Moment’s Notice’ is a project that enables students to interconnect the creation of art, environment and community.
Major Project 2014 ‘A Moment’s Notice’

‘A Moment’s Notice’ will guide students through a creative process grounded in the Aboriginal concept of Dadirri or “deep listening”. Through their exploration of the deep listening process the students, teachers and artist will collaborate to create a suite of group performance works featuring music, story (prose and poetry) and image inspired by their surrounding environment and community.

Fresh from a tour of the Northern Territory which included  workshops with indigenous students in the Tiwi Islands, Steve Sedergreen will lead a group of 27 Year 9 students through this creative process culminating in a concert on Tuesday, August 19 at Blackburn High School.

A highlight for the students will be playing with a  Tiwi Islands group and Steve Sedergreen’s long-time, Northern Territory tour collaborators, Michael Jordan (percussion) and Ron Murray (didgeridoo and story-telling).

The coordinator of the program is Dave Palmer.
