When we reflect back on 2022 as a school community, the year can be characterised by our optimism, enthusiasm, resilience, and a sense of urgency to seize the day. There was a real sense of excitement around the return of onsite learning and teaching and for the opportunities to reconnect with each other. We are very proud of our students’ achievements, commitment, hardwork and endeavour to strive to do their personal best throughout the year. Moreover, we encourage the students to continue to be curious, creative, and critical thinkers and to develop an intrinsic motivation and passion for learning.

Students participated in record numbers in the House events and once again enjoyed playing music and sport. They attended the Student Progress Conferences, camps, clubs, the Year 10 and 12 Formals, Valedictory Dinner celebrations, Peter Pan Play and the spectacular James Morrison workshops and concerts.

On Monday 17 October, the students were formally recognised at a farewell breakfast and assembly. They were also acknowledged by all the students with an inspiring Guard of Honor. In the evening, over 400 people including the graduands, their families, and staff continued the celebrations at the Valedictory Dinner held at the Centre Ivanhoe. The STEM Centre is part of a rejuvenation plan of the learning and teaching spaces at Blackburn High School that commenced in 2019 with the construction of the Covered Outdoor Learning Area. The STEM Centre surpasses our expectations, not only in the quality of the finish but for its innovation and sense of space and light. The furniture and equipment are expected to arrive in the next few weeks.

Congratulations to the BHS Year 7 Girls Hockey State Champions for 2023!

On Monday 14th November, the year 7 girls took an early bus to Footscray Hockey Club to play in the State Finals. They progressed through from EMR undefeated and were ready to play their hearts out. They needed to win top of their pool to progress to the Grand Final.
In their first game against Bendigo South East College, Samara scored the first goal in the first 20 seconds of the game! Off to a great start. The girls attacked brilliantly and won 11-0. Samara, Lavinia and Anabel the goal scorers of the game. The second game proved more challenging as the weather was not on our side, the rain pelted down, but our attack was fierce, as we managed 7 corners placing us with great opportunity to score. The girls stood strong against Brighton Secondary College with a 5-1 win. Our third pool match was against Wangaratta SC and again we won 2-0, some gutsy running from Chelsea and Mahsa to bring the ball forward and passing from Saachi and Siya.
The grand final was up against the also undefeated Melbourne Girls College who structured well and had great attack. Lacey in keeper, Jess, Amelia, Bella and Brooke played with their sticks down and stood strong against the attacking pressure of the opposition, only allowing one goal through. A tight game throughout but a goal in the final few minutes led us to a 3-1 victory.
What a phenomenal effort! These girls played so well, improved as the day progressed and remained positive throughout! Thankyou to all the parents who came along on the day to support and to Connor, and Miss Perrin who assisted with coaching throughout the tournament.

VCE – Vocational Major Information Session 2023

We have had a very positive start to Term Two, with everyone returning re-energised from the Easter term break. The students and teachers who attended the Central Australia Camp were still buzzing from their incredible experiences and they will cherish these memories forever.

In addition, we are very proud of the Dunlop student leaders who ably led the Anzac Day commemorations at the whole school assembly in the first week back.
